About[]

Taylor Hoyt is a video producer and former Lead Editor for Blistered Thumbs. For his first year and a half on BT he mainly covered Sony systems; news articles, reviews, top tens, and other editorials. In 2012 he stepped down as a writer to create a video series that would come to be known as Shinkara. On Shinkara Taylor exclusively reviews Japanese games, new and old, with a unique anime aesthetic and light-hearted style.

Final Fantasy VII and Persona 4 were games that ignited his passion for games and his love for RPGs. Some of his other favorite games include Uncharted 2, Mega Man X, Resident Evil, Shadow of the Colossus, and Final Fantasy Tactics. Over the years Taylor has worked a wide variety of jobs that include a Home Depot Manager, English Teacher (in South Korea), and most recently as a Community Manager for a Social Games company. He currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area.

TGWTG/Blistered Thumbs[]

In Blistered Thumbs' infancy Angry Joe posted a video asking for writers to submit their work to possibly be brought on as a staff member. Taylor had kept up a personal gaming blog, had been a fan of TGWTG for years and decided to submit his application. One fateful morning he booted up his computer to Angry Joe Skype calling up to let him known he would be joining the staff. During his time as a writer he has written dozens of reviews, covered various industry events (Game Developers' Conference, E3), and collaborated with numerous Channel Awesome producers for different projects.

Shinkara[]

Shinkara is review show in which Taylor (in the form of an anime character) reviews Japanese games that have been underrated over the years, are new releases, or exude a certain amount of heart and soul that are worth featuring. In Japanese, Shinkara roughly translates to "Heart and Soul", which are typically qualities for the games Taylor reviews on the show. Shinkara doesn't feature a scoring system as it's more about showcasing games that Taylor thinks players would enjoy, regardless of a review score. It premiered on TGWTG.com on September 6th, 2012.
